Is Medical Tourism Safe?
This is the first question people ask when the subject of medical tourism comes up. Global Medical Retreats has made every effort to find the best health care providers possible. We start by looking for hospitals with JCI accreditation. We personally inspect the hospital, and interview the administration, physicians and staff. We also make inquiries with patients. One of the hospitals in our network reports a heart surgery success rate of 99.6%. The hospitals in our network are state of the art facilities, and are among the most respected in the world.

There are many reasons why health care costs less abroad. First the cost of living in many developing countries is much lower. Approximately 40% of the cost of medical care in the U.S. is attributable to administration and paperwork costs. This is not the case in developing countries. A favorable exchange rate can mean further cost savings. Doctors and hospitals in the developing world don’t carry the burden of huge medical malpractice insurance premiums. Also, health insurance is not readily available in many locations leading to policy of cash payment for health care services.
The hospitals in our network are state of the art facilities with the most up to date equipment. Many of the doctors are board certified in the U.S. and the U.K. Anyone who has been treated in a hospital in the U.S. knows you see the nurses more than the doctors. The ratio of nurses to doctors is higher in our network hospitals than in the U.S. The level of care is excellent. You will also have a case manager available 24/7 should you need assistance.
